The Grandmother Spirit of the Amazon
Ayahuasca known lovingly as Abuela or Gran Abuela (Grandmother) is revered by the indigenous shamans of the Peruvian Amazon as a sentient spirit of nature. For generations, she has been honored as a guide, healer, and teacher, offering profound transformation to those who approach her with respect and intention.
The Meaning of Ayahuasca
The word “ayahuasca” comes from the Quechua language:
- Aya – spirit or soul
- Huasca – vine or rope
Together, it means “vine of the soul”, symbolizing a bridge between the physical and spiritual worlds.
Sacred Preparation
Traditionally, ayahuasca is brewed from two plants:
- Banisteriopsis caapi vine – containing MAOIs that allow visions to emerge
- Psychotria viridis leaves – containing DMT, the visionary compound
When combined, they open the doorway to expanded states of consciousness, vivid visions, and deep emotional healing.
Ancient Medicine for Modern Times
Ayahuasca is an entheogen, meaning “generating the divine within.” For thousands of years, Amazonian shamans have used it to:
- Heal emotional wounds
- Release stored trauma
- Gain insight into life’s purpose
- Connect with nature and the divine
Many report encountering their shadow self, the hidden parts of the psyche we tend to avoid. Though this process can be intense, it often leads to:
- Compassion for oneself and others
- Mental clarity
- Profound emotional release
Benefits of Ayahuasca
- Emotional Healing – Address unresolved grief, anger, or trauma
- Spiritual Awakening – Feel connected to a greater sense of purpose and unity
- Clarity & Guidance – Receive insights into personal challenges and decisions
- Deep Self-Love – Reconnect with your true essence and inner light
- Addiction Recovery Support – Studies suggest it may help break cycles of dependency
The Ayahuasca Ceremony
Our ceremonies begin at 6:00 PM and last for approximately 6 hours, flowing deep into the night.
Effects During Ceremony
- Altered states of consciousness
- Visual and auditory visions
- Physical purging (considered a form of cleansing)
- Emotional releases such as crying, laughter, or calm stillness
- Heightened awareness of interconnectedness
A Sacred Responsibility
Ayahuasca is not recreational. It is a powerful plant teacher that demands respect, preparation, and skilled guidance.
- Preparation – A diet of clean food, mental readiness, and intention setting
- Ceremonial Space – Guided by experienced shamans or facilitators
- Integration – The most important step, bringing the lessons back into daily life
Though illegal in countries like the US and UK, ayahuasca is available in Peru, Brazil, and certain legal retreat centers in Portugal, Spain, and the Netherlands.
" The Mother will open your heart and show you who you truly are,a source of limitless life and joy."
